- Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certification in respective grade level, and endorsements in respective subject area, OR
- Presentation of an original, signed letter from the Certification Officer of an accredited college or university verifying current enrollment in an approved certification program in order to be eligible for an Emergency Permit.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year, signing bonus up to $5000 commensurate with level of experience and certification.

Location & Safety:
Franklin Towne Charter High School is located in the Bridesburg-Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia. Unlike most Philadelphia schools that are located within a neighborhood, Franklin Towne Charter H.S. is uniquely cut off from potential hazards of neighborhood violence due to Interstate 95 to the west and the Delaware River to the east. In addition, Franklin Towne is safely located within a gated community known as the Arsenal Business Center. Like the decommissioned Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philly that has undergone a substantial rejuvenation, the Arsenal Business Center is following suit with its own revival.

Professional Development:

- All teachers will have a staff orientation week beginning Monday, August 28 prior to the start of the school year which will include a varied approach to professional development.
- Full P.D. days are dedicated throughout the school year as well as Friday afternoons.
School Calendar and Contractual Hours:
- The school-year instruction begins on Wednesday, September 3rd (Teachers are off Labor Day and the Tuesday after).
- The school year will end on Friday June 12th.
- Days off are aligned with federal holidays and include both winter and spring breaks that are at least a full week off – teachers are not expected to grade work over extended breaks.

Now Hiring: FTCHS Instructional Aide
Start Date: August 18, 2025
Under direct supervision, provides routine on-call assistance to one or more qualified instructors in the day-to-day performance of classroom and associated activities related to the subjects of Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under detailed instruction from the instructor, assists in facilitating classroom activities carried out by students.
- Communicates with, assists, and answers questions from students as required on routine day-to-day classroom issues.
- Practices appropriate safety and injury prevention methods and procedures.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Assists with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, hallways, arrival and dismissal activities.
- Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during outdoor activities as directed, become familiar with student IEP goals and report progress regarding student performance and behavior to supervising teacher.
- Participate in professional growth activities and in-service training programs.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility and ethical behavior.
- Demonstrate the ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
- Demonstrate ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Demonstrate effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, educational staff, parents and staff.
- Respect the confidentiality of information regarding students and be discreet in dealing with parents and educational personnel.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Minimum Job Requirements
High School Diploma required; no previous experience required.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Clearance Requirements:
Pennsylvania School Law requires that all applicants for employment in public and private schools undergo the following background checks:
- ACT 151 -DHS Child Abuse History Clearance
- Act 34- PA State Police Criminal Record Check
- Act 114 -FBI Fingerprints
All Clearances must be within six months of application date.
Candidates must also provide the results of a physical and TB test, dated within the last year, and Employment History Review (Act 168), if applicable.

Instructional Aide in the Life Skills Classroom
The Special Education Aide working in the Life Skills classroom performs a variety of duties assisting a licensed teacher in the instruction of students with disabilities, primarily students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. Instruction may be separate from the teacher, requiring skill and supervision within the framework of an IEP. The nature of the work follows established classroom and school procedures. Because this job involves continuous interaction with students, the position requires a high degree of professionalism, calm, and the ability to act as a role model to young people.
The Special Education Aide will report directly to the Life Skills teacher and the Director of Special Education.
Duties include:
- Follow and become familiar with individualized education plans
- Respect the confidentiality of information regarding students and be discreet in dealing with parents and educational personnel.
- Communicate with, assist, and answer questions from students as required on routine day-to-day classroom issues.
- Assist with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, arrival and dismissal activities, and observing students walk to the restrooms and related service provider locations.
- Ensure the safety of students while in the classroom and throughout the building.
- Prompt and assist students in using self-regulation strategies and/or coping skills.
- Participate in professional growth activities and in-service training programs.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility and ethical behavior.
- Demonstrate the ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
- Under detailed instruction from the instructor, assists in facilitating classroom activities carried out by students, including but not limited to small group support and 1:1 support.
- Foster an environment that allows students to grow their independence.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
